Unisys Adds Full-Page Imaging to SmartSource® Micro Series Payment Systems with New MicroEX Model

Washington, DC, August 4, 2009 – Unisys Corporation (NYSE: UIS) today introduced a new model, the MicroEX, to the SmartSource Micro Series line of multi-function remote deposit scanners. The MicroEX adds full-page imaging capabilities, with a scan height from 2.13 inches (54 millimeters) to 8.5 inches (216 millimeters) and a length from 3.15 inches (80 millimeters) to 13.98 inches (355 millimeters).

Unisys made the announcement at The Association for Work Process Improvement’s TAWPI 2009 Forum & Expo.

The SmartSource Micro Series offers enterprises a low-cost, easy way to deposit checks from their offices directly into their bank accounts. At the same time, it provides financial institutions with a cost-effective remote capture solution for small-business customers.

The new MicroEX model is priced at US$225 and is capable of imaging full-page documents in addition to cards, receipts and checks. Unisys believes that the MicroEX is the lowest-priced full-page-enabled check scanner available today.

“The response to our SmartSource Micro Series scanners has been so positive that we felt it was important to round out the product line with a similar scanner that could image full-page documents,” said Alan Howard, president, Unisys Payment Systems. “The MicroEX is a perfect fit for small-business customers and consumers who occasionally need to archive full-page documents but don’t want to devote scarce desktop space to a flatbed scanner.”

All SmartSource Micro Series scanners are USB-powered, requiring no additional external power source. The scanners use optical character recognition technology to read the magnetic ink character recognition (MICR) line on checks, allowing for easier processing because checks do not need to be specifically aligned on the scanning path.

Both the Micro and MicroEX models image in a duplex mode, capturing both the front and rear sides of a document with one pass. The scanners are compatible with Silver Bullet’s Ranger interface and are TWAIN-compliant.

Unisys expects that volume shipments of the SmartSource Micro Series will be available on October 1. For more information, see www.unisys.com/go/micro.

The Unisys SmartSource family of image-scanning item-processing products works well in a variety of environments, including back office, teller and corporate capture.
